Same-sex marriage: It’s about love!

Touché Gov. Gregoire of Washington.

Finally, someone gets it. Someone avoids the typical arguments and points out what the core of marriage and domestic partnerships should be focused on. In this article posted by The Advocate, Gov. Gregorie denies the typical pro domestic partnership arguments and states, “I don’t think about the legal protections of a marriage license,” she said. “Instead I think about love, I think about commitment.”

Marriage, she said, is “not a contract.”

There are politicians like Gregorie stepping up to the debate and others who are stepping around it. The end of the article makes the point that the United States is still unsure where President Obama stands on domestic partnerships. Personally, I feel cheated. I think the people of the United States have a right to know where our President stands.

Of course, we won’t know, due to politics and the fear of losing votes. However, we want to know how you feel. Does the topic of same-sex marriage weigh in when you vote?

I agree with your last point. I feel cheated as well and do not think it’s right that there is this gray area for politicians. They should be able to state their views and stand by them! If only we had a way to force them into doing so….hmmmm! Thank you for sharing and go Gov Gregoire!!

It’s annoying, but it’s the truth about what politicians do with any “controversial” topic (really, most topics). They’re resolute one day, flip-flop the next. When it becomes “okay” because so many governors, congressman, etc. get behind it, Obama will be behind it. Actually, he already was before he was elected president. He stepped back only since he’s been in office.

Welcome to American politics. Really, there are very few people that I ever want to vote for these days.
