How many mirrors do you have in your house?

It’s a liberating feeling not living with a full length mirror. Sure, sometimes I’m curious how something looks so I’ll sneak into my roommates bedroom to have a look in hers. I’ve lived without a full-length mirror for several years now, but I remember when I had one, constantly checking myself out, adjusting this, straightening that. To not have any mirror would be a stretch…I like to at least make sure I don’t have food stuck in my teeth or boogers hanging out my nose. But I’m sure many of us can do with a lot less mirrors around.

I’ve been able to shift my relationship with mirrors over the last couple of years. I actually have a large, dance studio size mirror, with two full length mirrors I put on either side in order to choreograph. But I’ve worked hard to change my views of myself, looking at those places on my body where I used to feel shame and feeding them appreciation instead. Non-harsh lighting and good music make all the difference.

I think so much of what we see is behind our eyes anyway, and not what actually reflects in the mirror. But I appreciate what you are saying.
